In 1981, Edmund T. Ahee Sr., founder of Ahee Jewelers, his wife, Bettejean and their seven children founded the first Capuchin Souper Summer Celebration to benefit the Capuchin’s Soup Kitchen in Detroit. Having grown up during the Great Depression and witnessing many friends standing in line at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen as a child, the establishment always held a special place in Edmund’s heart. With your tremendous support over the years, the Capuchin Souper Summer Celebration has grown exponentially, outgrowing numerous venues and ultimately landing at Comerica Park. This special event, along with the Edmund T. Ahee Capuchin Endowment Fund for Hunger, has raised millions to help provide food, clothing, substance abuse treatment, job training and tutoring services for thousands in the city of Detroit through the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
