This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Annual Capuchin Souper Summer Celebration, an event that was very near and dear to the hearts of Edmund T. and Bettejean Ahee, and is a special day for our entire family.
In a year in which we continue to celebrate moments and traditions in a unique way, we invite you to join us for a virtual jewelry raffle to benefit the Capuchin Soup Kitchen on July 22, 2021. The drawing will take place live on Ahee Jewelers’ Facebook page beginning at 6pm.
Themed “Faith, Love & Hope”, this year’s virtual raffle features over $30,000 worth of beautiful jewelry donated from Ahee Jewelers with brands including Cartier, Roberto Coin, David Yurman, Sara Weinstock, Tag Heuer, Mikimoto and MeiraT.
We thank you for your friendship and support and look forward to celebrating virtually with you.
History of the Capuchin Souper Summer Celebration
In 1981, Edmund T. Ahee Sr., founder of Ahee Jewelers, his wife, Bettejean and their seven children founded the first Capuchin Souper Summer Celebration to benefit the Capuchin’s Soup Kitchen in Detroit. Having grown up during the Great Depression and witnessing many friends standing in line at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen as a child, the establishment always held a special place in Edmund’s heart.
With your tremendous support over the years, the Capuchin Souper Summer Celebration has grown exponentially, outgrowing numerous venues and ultimately landing at Comerica Park. This special event, along with the Edmund T. Ahee Endowment Fund for Hunger, has raised millions to help provide food, clothing, substance abuse treatment, job training and tutoring services for thousands in the city of Detroit through the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.

Blessed Solanus Casey
Blessed Solanus Casey spoke in a soft and quiet voice to all who came to him for help. And he prayed. Some say his prayers cured illness. All say his serenity and counsel gave them peace. He was always ready to listen to anyone at any time, day or night….and to encourage everyone to “thank God ahead of time.” Blessed Solanus co-founded the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in 1929, just as the Great Depression tightened its grip on the nation. Countless children, women and men in the Detroit area have since found welcome and hope at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. Pope John Paul II declared him Venerable in 1995. On May 4, 2017, Pope Francis announced that Venerable Solanus would be beatified. A miraculous cure was approved; and indeed he was beatified on November 18, 2017 at Ford Field, Detroit. Another approved miracle will advance the Cause finally to sainthood.
Edmund T. Ahee
Edmund T. Ahee was a man of implicit integrity: he was upright, sincere and generous—a humanitarian in every sense of the word. In 1981, he indicated that he wanted his family to support a charity close to his heart, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. For 18 years, Edmund excitedly presided over the annual Capuchin Souper Summer Celebration. True to his foresight, his children and grandchildren have continued to fulfill his legacy by carrying out the annual beloved event in his honor.
